Using Vinegar around the Home

There are several items in your cupboard that you might be able to use right now to solve problems around the home. Vinegar is an excellent example. You can use vinegar as a strong cleaning solution practically everywhere in the home. Here you will find a few tips on how to use it.

The first thing that you can do with vinegar is you can use it to unblock your sink. First pour a cup of baking powder into the plug hole. Then add a cup of vinegar. Leave it for up to 30 minutes and then rinse well with cold water. You will notice that the baking powder starts to fizz quite violently when the vinegar is added. This is perfectly normal and it is nothing to worry about.

Another use for vinegar is to use it to eliminate the salt from your shoes. This is particularly useful in winter when grit and salt is used to melt the snow and ice. If you get it in the cracks of your shoes then it can cause them to start to disintegrate. This can be prevented if you wipe vinegar over the salt stains as soon as possible. You should ideally use diluted white vinegar for this purpose.

One of the most useful tips for using vinegar around the home is to use it to remove carpet stains. It can be used to remove quite a lot of different stains, including tough ones. Simply dissolve some salt in white vinegar and rub it over the stain. Leave it to dry and then vacuum up the residue.  If the stain is quite stubborn then you may need to mix 1 tablespoon of vinegar with a tablespoon of cornstarch. Rub the mixture into the stain and leave it for up to 2 days. You should then vacuum the area and the stain should be removed. You may need to repeat this a few times before the stain has completely gone.
