Things to Avoid when Cleaning the Home

1 November 2010 488 views No Comment

Cleaning the home is not always as straight forward as you would imagine it to be. For example, there are a number of things that you need to consider if you want to avoid ruining your furniture. Here you will find the top things to avoid the next time that you clean your home.

Strong Chemical Cleaners

Strong chemical cleaners can be great for cleaning floors and worktops; however they are not always suitable for your furniture. You need to pay attention to the type of furniture that you have. Pine furniture will need gentle cleaning as it is quite a soft wood, it should also be kept out of direct sunlight too.

It isn’t just pine furniture that strong chemical cleaners can damage. Always read the labels before you use the cleaners.

Kids and Pets

You should avoid trying to clean up while your kids and pets are running freely around the home. It will make your job so much harder as you will be running around behind them cleaning up even more mess. Leave it until you have the house to yourself and keep your pets outside until you have finished.

Don’t Use a Dry Cloth When Polishing

One of the biggest mistakes people make when polishing the home is using a dry cloth. It is much more effective to use a damp cloth as the dust will cling to it. With a dry cloth it simply ‘shifts’ the dust around. It is also a good idea to have the window open while you dust. That way any dust that is released into the air will escape out of the window rather than settle in the room.

These are just some of the top tips to follow when cleaning your home. It is also a good tip to split the cleaning tasks up, particularly if you have a large home.
