De-Cluttering Your Garage

23 January 2011 4,002 views No Comment

If you are running out of storage space then it may be worth de-cluttering your garage. Not only will de-cluttering the garage give you more space, but it will also help you to get to anything that you have stored in there. However, the thought of sorting through all of the junk in there can seem like a nightmare. Luckily there are some tips that can help you.

Tip Number One – Break the Job Down

One of the biggest mistakes that people make when sorting out any part of their homes is to take on everything at the same time. When you attempt to just sort everything out there and then in one swoop, it can really put you off. Instead you should break the task down into manageable sections.

Separate parts of the garage and aim to sort them out one at a time. Once you have sorted through one section, have a small break before heading on to the next section. This will help you to stay focused and you shouldn’t get too stressed out.

Tip Number Two – Consider a Garage Sale

If you find things that you no longer need, put them to one side and organize a garage sale. That way you get to eliminate the junk and earn money at the same time. You should be strict with yourself when it comes to sorting through items that can be thrown away. Don’t hang on to something that you haven’t used for months. If you haven’t used it within six months then it is likely that you will not use it for another six months.

Tip Number Three – Store Everything in Sections

Once you have de-cluttered, it is time to organize the things that are left. Ideally you should place them in sections. Put all of your garden tools together, your car maintenance equipment together and so on. Keep similar category items together and that will make them easier to find.
